Pose Tech
I'm starting to get into the Pose style of running. My triathlon instructor, Ned Lenny, endoreses the technique and, as a physical therapist, recommends it to runners with injuries. I've purchased the book and DVD and I've started getting into it. The book recommends learning in the off-season, which is what I plan to do.
The web site is here: http://www.posetech.com/ but you can get the Pose Method Book and Pose Method DVD on Amazon.
A friend of mine sent me an email asking about the method. We discussed it a little and he recommended I post here to see what kind of feedback we could get from people who had learned to run with the Pose Method.
I've added our email conversation to the extended post.
So if you have any experience or questions about Pose, please drop a comment!
Jackson Kuhl:
The latest ish of Runner's World has a feature on the Pose method. They give
it a luke-warm thumb's up.
Drop a line about how your training is going sometime.

Chris Tulino:
I just finished the Marlton Lakes Triathlon, my 3K time was 24:05. Overall
time was 1:08:19.
I felt pretty good. I'm going to take the winter to try to improve my base
significantly in running and swimming.
Yesterday I swam 1.25 miles in 47 minutes, just to see if I was capable of
making the cutoff time for the Eagleman Half Ironman in June.
I already registered for the race, which sells out quickly every year. It's
June 12, 2005 and will be a huge accomplishment for me if I can just finish.
The race is 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run. The average time
for a first timer is 5 hours, 40 minutes. There is a swim cutoff of 60
minutes. So if you don't complete the swim in 60 minutes, you can't go on.
So I think I can train into the swimming so I can complete that distance
with a better time and more good energy reserves. A race that's 6 hours
long is basically like a non-stop work day, so I will have to train at
working slow and steady for long durations.
As far as Pose, my instructor (a sub-ten hour ironman finisher and physical
therapist) swears by it, so I'm going to try to learn it this winter.
How's your running going? You know, without that carriage, you would
probably be a good bit quicker!
24:05 is a good time for 3 miles. I did the Southport 5K yesterday and got
my PB of 25:18, down from 26:09 I got in New Haven on Labor Day. That puts
my pace at 8:10. My next goal is try to get that down to 8 minutes/mile.
I'm curious about the Pose method for no other reason than everyone says it
dramatically reduces knee injury. My knees are really what's holding me back
at this point. I don't have a coach or anything, and I don't know of any
instructors or classes in the area, so that leaves me with a DVD. Let me
know how that DVD you bought is -- I'm very interested.
You should be posting all this on your blog. Get some other loons in on this
discussion.
