Critical Chain Project Management

img src="\uploads\ccpm.jpg" align="left"/>This book, Critical Chain Project Management is absolutley incredible! This is my introduction to all things TOC and I am really impressed. Laurence Leach describes the analysis of the Project Management System as if it were any other system (similar to manufacturing, etc). The breakdown applies the Theory of Constraints (new to me) and Total Quality Management in a way that makes the conclusions and recommendations of the book not only logical, but clearly pertinent to the improvement of project management. Check it out!

PM Envy

Every project manager I know is looking for a "good" project. A project that is not a nightmare, where success can happen. This is similar to the hopeless romantics looking for true love. It's not that it doesn't exist. It's just not practical to spend time looking for it. If you get lucky, you get lucky. But for the most part, you just buckle down and do the best you can with every situation that arises. If you work at it hard enough, in six months, this project could become a great project. But you can't just will it to be great and you won't just find it out there somewhere.

PMI CAQ for Information Technology Systems

The Project Management Institute, to which I am a member (and certified as well), has recently created a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) for Information Technology-Systems. This is very exciting news for certified Project Management Professionals (PMP) that are in the world of IT. IT probably has among the worst project management practices of any industry (or at least for an industry that spends so much money). This certification will provide a credibility within the IT industry for PMI certified managers. PMI has been critisized by IT departments as being to general and not pragmatic. However, I think this CAQ will help improve the realtionship between PMI and the IT industry.

You can check out the details of the new CAQ here: Information Technology-Systems Certificate of Added Qualification (ITS CAQ) Exam. I plan on applying to take the test this month. I will post my progress in studying and my test results. Since the test is very new and there is very little information about the types of questions on the test, I may have to take it once just to see what I should study.
